Dave,
I think you are doing a great job. I have been surprised at how balanced the sermons are considering some of the soap boxes and reactionary speaking I've heard in the past (not particularly from you). I have thought I had a good handle on money issues, but these sermons and going for an MBA has made me think more about how Christians should handle money and its importance or lack thereof in our lives. I think you have pick out some very good passages as the basis for the sermons. I'm sure there's a lot more to be said, but I'm grateful for the amount of time and the perspective spent on this issue. In many ways I feel like this needs to be an ongoing conversation in our lives because of how integral it is to the way we live.

Maria Kirby

Hey Dave,

I'm just curious...How do you deal with women who are gifted/called to preach? Are they in the college of preachers too?

Tough as this direction is for the average western believer, we have to move in this direction if we are to be a reconciled and reconciling community. It's countercultural and challenges the very root of our self-interest.

Beyond Words ... Yes, Exactly. Each sermon has been a call into the Mission for I so agree with you that God's economy makes little sense apart from the Missio Dei. Not onyl that, each text is impossib le to preach apart from the Missional subtext. Likewise, each discipline is seen as just a beginning, an entry way, a crack opening of the door into this marvelous way of living Missionally. It is the beginning of a formational process. Thanks for your great questions and insights.

DF

It looks very comprehensive and I appreciate the call to discipline. It's not fair of me to critique an outline, but I do have a couple of questions. :)

For example, I wonder if the congregation will track the overall purpose of God's economy--what is the Kingdom vision that compels us to live simply and generously and use our resources in right relationship with God, each other and creation?

Also, I think it's interesting you would refer to tithing as a discipline. Does that mean it's not commmanded but it's a good place to start, and it takes practice just like other spiritual disciplines do? If so, I think that's an appropriate way to frame it.
